Lung or Throat cancer: Symptoms and Risk factors


          Lungs are the primary organs of human respiratory system. But sometimes it becomes most dangerous for the human body if it is affected by cancer cells. Lungs cancer is also known as lung carcinoma, which is nothing but the abnormal or uncontrolled growth of cells in tissues also known as malignant tumor.

          The cancer cells can spread beyond the lungs by the process of metastasis which is a development of secondary malignant growths at a distance from a primary site of cancer.
Lung cancer is the most common cause of death due to cancer in both men and women throughout the world. 
       The main reason of the lung cancer is increase in pollution and number of smokers have also increased among the youth. Even due to stress and depression the people are prone to smoking habits due to which most of them are affected with lung cancer.

Symptoms of Lung Cancer:

     Lung cancer does not show any symptoms at the early stages of the cancer. The most common symptoms of Lung cancer are as follows:

  • Chronic and raspy coughing, sometimes with mucus and blood.
  • Changes in a cough texture that you've had from long time.
  • Sudden and severe chest pain. Chest pain remains for longer also.
  • Hoarseness - abnormal voice changes.
  • Wheezing - high pitch whistling sound coming while exhaling.
  • Respiratory infections that keep coming back or chronic like bronchitis and pneumonia.
  • Shortness of breathe or breathing problems.
  • Swelling of the neck and face.
  • Trouble swallowing.
  • Fatigue and weakness, loss of appetite, sudden weight loss.

If you face any of the symptoms for longer period of time like more than 2-3 weeks then it's better to meet a doctor for checkup.


Risk factors causing Lung Cancer:

     The main cause of lung cancer is smoking. In this generation, stress and depression are main reason for adapting the smoking habit. You might not be smoking but actually you are smoking too. There are two types of smokers:
  • Active smoker -  who smokes tobacco or cigarettes
  • Passive smoker - who inhales the smoke released by the active smoker.
